Live gaming

Armed with a bevy of Christmas gift cards and old games to trade in, I finally broke down and purchased Xbox Live.

Currently, we're equipped with the following Live-enabled multiplayer titles:

Ghost Recon: Island Thunder
MechAssault
Project Gotham Racing 2
Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield

Add us to your friends list if you're up for some games!

I have PGR2 and Crimson Skies, but no Live yet. When I get around to building or buying a new router to handle Microsoft's *#&^*(@#^$ #@*&#@($& SF(&*#(*&Q@#$ stupid network code, I'll join ya.

Looking forward to racing joo peoples. My "review" of PGR2 is going up today. No, I don't hump the case.

I share (some of) your pain. It took me about 4 hours to get everything working correctly. A couple of tips that helped me along:

One: Firmware upgrades are a Good Thing(tm). Even though my router isn't on the list of Live-compatible devices, I found that a recent firmware upgrade silently (i.e. without mentioning anything in the release notes) added improved Live support. I favor stability in most cases, so I don't usually upgrade firmware unless it fixes a problem I'm having, adds a feature I need, or closes a security hole. On a lark, I decided to upgrade my router's firmware to the most recent version and it fixed 99% of my problems.

Two: The google (and google groups) search "[router model number] xbox live" will yield interesting tidbits and suggestions. A couple that didn't end up helping me but might help others: make sure your MTU size is 1500 (if it's configurable on your router); statically assign IP/GW/DNS on your Xbox and then use the "DMZ" feature of your router (if you have one) to fully expose it - this may work around the ICMP and other protocol-mangling issues that Live foists upon you.

CF -

We are only Extrasonic... don't know any WAGU. Sorry. I will almost certainly check out both hockey games and see which one I prefer, but if you're invested in ESPN NHL Hockey, then I think that may end up being the right platform for the many digital Stanley Cups that I expect the Red Wings to win in the Extrasonic household. :)

Yea, I've done the filter rule hacks, upgraded the firmware, looked on the web, port forwarded every port to my xbox at one point, etc... still no luck. I'll probably give it one more attempt this weekend (and see if anything new has popped up on the web). If it still doesn't work, I may just build my own router.

But, but, but... they don't have Sergei! ;)

For the record, I will not be favoring any Red Wing victories in this house. Stars all the way...woo! :)

And so far it's just the dude who is playing on Live. The dudette is holding out for True Fantasy Live Online.
