Homeless monkey arrested in Russia

I think this is pretty self-explanatory. Besides, it’s been far too long since we’ve had any monkey humor around here…

Video games are good for you

Visual skills are improved through video gaming - no, really?

Star Wars Galaxies

Desiree and I are officially members of the Star Wars Galaxies Beta 3 program. Other than telling you that we’re testers, we’re not allowed to say anything else under the NDA or else we face expulsion and I think George Lucas gets to eat our first-born (or something equally dire).

We’ll post more when the NDA is lifted. :)

Short blogging hiatus

Sorry for the lack of postings recently… Desiree is at a conference and I’m preparing for a business trip that will cause me to be gone until next Thursday. I’ll try to make a couple of posts today, but things will be pretty thin for a while.

In the meantime, visit some of the links at the left (if you’re viewing this from the main page)!

Uh oh Whitney’s joinin’ a cult!

I couldn’t resist posting this tidbit, but it looks like Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown are on their way towards joining a cult. Boy, they couldn’t be more frightening of a couple if they tried.

BTW, what the HELL are they wearing in that photo with Sharon? Whitney, please get that scary thing off of your head!

Veiling for a driver’s license?

Hey, I’m all for religious freedom. You need to stop work to pray to Mecca a few times a day? So be it. You need to wear a niqab? Go ahead. Do what you need to do, just as long as you don’t break the law.

We have laws for a reason. We don’t make exceptions for a reason. Am I the only one who sees the necessity for a woman to remove her veil for her driver’s license photo? I mean, come on! Your driver’s license is one of the two main items used to prove identity. Go ahead and allow women to wear veils for their photos and who the hell knows who they really are? I find this lawsuit absolutely ridiculous.

If only her husband and brothers can see her unveiled, have one of them take the photo and just hope she never gets pulled over. Because, honey, this is the United States and we have laws that you need to follow.

Language Police Part II

Many of you were as offended as I was when coming across our first Language Police post.

A new story at CNN reveals more comments by “The Language Police” author Dianne Ravitch.

Most interesting is the observation that “The Old Man and the Sea” only has two words in the title that would be appropriate in text books: “and” and “the”.
Old = ageist
Man = sexist
Sea = not sensitive to people who live inland and “can’t grasp the concept for a large body of water.”

Huh? “Can’t grasp the concept for a large body of water”? This is something we want to condone? We want people to grow up not “grasping the concept of a large body of water”? About 70% of earth is covered in water…but we don’t want them to “grasp the concept”?

I think we need a new continent so that the puritans (and PC maniacs) can once again cross water (can’t say sea!) and get the hell out of here.

Quality Sperm and Striking Faces (you know you have to read this)

Wow, these surveys sure sound conclusive to me!

1) I hate poorly done studies/research/surveys

2) Like I care/believe what’s coming out of the University of Valencia in Spain and the University of Nottingham in England.

3) I’d sure like to know what constitutes “most striking faces” and “best quality sperm”.

PSX… not PSone

Sony has announced a new consumer electronic device called the PSX which has the ability to record live television and store it on a hard drive (like TiVo or other DVRs) but with a twist - it also has a DVD player/burner in it and can play PS1-PS2 games. It is ethernet-enabled, too, although it’s unclear if this means that you’ll be able to move your digitally-recorded TV shows to your computer this way or if you’ll have to rely on the DVD burner for PSX->PC file transport.
