Penultimate Potter complete
An announcement was made earlier today that the manuscript of the sixth (of a planned seven) books in the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, has been completed and that the book will be released worldwide on July 16th, 2005. (Desiree will be pleased.)

I’ve only read the first but the first thing to jump out at me is… July?! What the hell? Are they pressing the books using only the finest quality papers, lovingly constructed from gently-denuded old-growth forests and bound in only the most supple skins of farm-raised, virgin, red-assed marmasets?

If I had to guess, I’d say it’s due to translation/localization (wouldn’t want importers to make money on your product when you can wait and sell it locally!), possibly cover art, and then the logistics of printing and delivering enough copies everywhere. Plus, the author said it was done, not her publisher - so who knows if there will be a couple more drafts to knock out any inadvertent grammar or clarity problems.
That’s just a guess though; I know next to nothing about the publishing industry, so my theory’s just as plausible as binding the book with the skins of red-assed mammals.
