Freedom Force 2

Freedom Force was a great tactical superhero game - the reasons it didn’t get a lot more playing time on my computer were a couple of flaws that I felt were unforgivable; despite a FANTASTIC system for creating your own custom superheroes, you could not use those custom heroes as the main characters throughout the single-player campaign. As much as I loved the kitchy Golden Age plot, I just didn’t have fun with the game’s pre-fab heroes. The other thing that killed replayability for me was that multiplayer was very weak, consisting of a single, basic head-to-head mode.

I don’t know about using custom heroes as main characters in the single-player campaign yet, but multiplayer is reportedly an area of focus for the Freedom Force sequel, Freedom Force vs. The Third Reich - including a co-op mode which should be enormous fun.

(No, seriously, go download it.)

Im playing this game currently and have some comments.

    1) I wholeheartedly agree that not being able to play custom characters as the main is a flaw but the game does work if you can handle the characters the game gives you to work with.

    2) FFVSTTR is a lot better than FF but suffers from the same fundamental flaws. Id say one of the most frustrating things aside from above gripe is that the customizer doesnt really give you much to work with. The game maker probably assumed people would make their own meshes but didnt actually provide the tech to do that which would have made the game 1000% better imho.

    3) Also, being a vet GM of Champions I feel the customizer is rather unbalanced. There are clearly some power/combos that are undercosted/overpowered and others that are just ridiculously expensive. And some just dont work at all(or have a visible effect). And alot of powers/skills/talents/etc are missing (I suppose this is forgivable as some things are just too hard to replicate on a pc.

    4) Im enjoying it so my complaints about it dont really take into account that its still a fun experience.
